Since the launch of our Soulfood Inner Peace, we have realised that there is much confusion between hemp seed oil and cannabis that has a negative connotation, time to clear the air! It’s all about THC.
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) has a long history of being misused as it is the compound in cannabis that creates a “high” where the mind becomes intoxicated. Combined with this sensation, are feelings of paranoia, extreme thirst and hunger. According to studies, using 50mg or more may also cause anxiety, nausea, psychosis, heart attack, and irregular heart rhythm. Cannabis is made from the leaves and flowers of the Cannabis plant.
Hemp oil, however, is made from the seeds and these contain less than 0.3% of THC with no risk of intoxication. It does have many wellness benefits and it was a logical choice to be included in our Inner Peace formula.
Beautiful Skin
Hemp oil is rich in fatty acids and vitamins that offer intensive nourishment and fights inflammation, oxidation and addresses skin ageing.
A review from 2014 notes that applying hemp seed oil may strengthen the skin and improve its ability to withstand infection. It also suggests that it will be helpful in the treatment for a range of skin issues such as eczema and psoriasis.
Acne
The fatty acids in hemp seed oil may help prevent inflammation and balance the skin and that can result in acne.
A recent study in the Journal of Clinical Investigation found that CBD may affect the oil glands in people with chronic acne, leading to reduced oil production and may help to prevent acne breakouts. Who doesn’t want clear skin, right?
Help your brain and heart
Using hemp oil as a splash over a salad will add a good dose of fatty acids and polyphenols. Fatty acids help to reduce inflammation and polyphenols can offer protective aid to vital organs. Studies are ongoing but the results sure look promising!
Do ensure that your hemp seed oil comes from a reliable supplier. The seeds and oil should be free of plant matter that may add additional compounds, such as THC.
